The Jhasqaariin

The Jhasqaariin are a tribe of Psionics users who have historically been shunned from civilized society for their unnatural abilities. Because of this, they live in the most inhospitable part of the Al’Jhasqaar desert. Temperatures during the day soar to over 125 degrees, and the nights in colder months can easily drop below zero. If the extreme temperatures weren’t enough, there are also giant desert crocodiles, evil djinn, and chimera that inhabit the area, not to mention monstrous insects and giant lizards. The only food to eat, outside of killing and eating the deadly wildlife, is the fruit of the death cactus, which ripens for only one week of the year, and must be picked carefully, as its needles contain a powerful neuro-toxin capable of paralyzing an adult Human in a matter of minutes. This cactus is also one of the only ways to find water in the desert, short of the rare oasis, or a cave leading to an underground spring.

Due to the environment in which they are raised, the Jhasqaariin have become a sort of cult of survival. They seek the most hostile environments in the world to live, as missionaries would seek out holy sites during a pilgrimage. It is said that they believe these places test the limits of their power, and help them to hone their Psionic abilities.

Not much is commonly known about the inner-workings or social structure of the Jhasqaariin. They share no universal mark by which they can be identified, but in their homeland of Al’Jhasqaar, those with heavily scarred bodies and weathered faces are generally given a wide berth, as legends of the Jhasqaariin depict them as relentless, powerful foes who move like the wind, and fight better than captains of the palace guard.
